Opinion | Now a woman can command Indian Army.

We all must have heard the name of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi, how a lady soldier led troops into a battle for freedom. And after few decades Anjana Bhaduria, who joined the first-ever batch of female cadets in 1992 at the Officers Training Academy, Chennai, is the first female officer in the Indian Army to win the Gold Medal.

And there are lot of women who are given service to nation. So why our Army man unable to follow orders given by a woman officer.

The Supreme Court has ruled that there were no valid reasons for the Indian Army to keep its positions of command out of female reach.

A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and Ajay Rastogi ruled: “To cast aspersion on their abilities on the ground of gender is an affront not only to their dignity as women but to the dignity of the members of the Indian Army, men and women, who serve as equal citizens in a common mission. “The submissions advanced in the note tendered to this court are based on sex stereotypes premised on assumptions about socially ascribed roles of gender which discriminate against women.”

The court noted that there are currently 1,653 women officers. With this ruling, all serving short service commission (SSC) women officers will be considered for permanent commission within three months.

In 2010 the Delhi court stated: "A PC (Permanent Commission) carries with it certain privileges of rank, including pension. These women officers have served well the armed forces of the country in the areas of operation they were recruited for and have worked in this capacity for 14 to 15 years. They deserved better from the respondents."

But even after 10 years of the judgement we unable to accept a woman in combat roles. I don`t know why?

We have to think that like men, women should be judged on the basis of their professionalism and merit.

What cannot be cast aside under any circumstance is the right of every woman to pursue a career of her choice and reach the top

In my opinion the time has come for us. In all services we have to insure woman partnership.
Specially in forces like Police and army. We have to make this world equal for man and woman and have to teach our future man generation that every girl is equal to you.
We have to finish Male dominance in our society.
That can make our nation great.
